Assemblymember Gipson’s Bill Ensures Patients Receive the Right Care at the Right Time

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) introduced Assembly Bill 1795 to streamline California’s emergency medical response system to improve patient care. The bill will allow paramedics to take individuals affected by mental health-related conditions or alcohol intoxication directly to a behavioral health facility or sobering center instead of transporting them directly to an overcrowded hospital emergency room. “This bill ensures patients have access to appropriate care while hospital emergency departments are utilized for life saving care to patients who experience serious illness or injury,” said Assemblymember Gipson. “Hospital waiting times continue to increase and it is an unsustainable trend that puts the lives of patients at risk. Let’s give patients the right kind of care when they need it.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
