LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 6, 2023) --- On Sunday, thousands of Hotel Workers in Southern California launched a strike demanding higher wages and improved benefits. The strike, organized by UNITE HERE Local 11, represents the unified voice of over 32,000 hospitality workers in Southern California and Arizona. Workers from more than a dozen hotels in Los Angeles and Santa Monica are participating in the strike, which commenced after their contract expired. Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) supports these hotel workers and calls for a swift resolution.
“Hotel workers are on strike all across Southern California,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson. “Working in the hospitality industry is a hard, thankless job that is often overlooked, and our hotel workers deserve fair and just working environments. I respect all the hospitality workers, from the cooks and dishwashers to the housekeeping staff to the front desk and managers, etc. They all deserve fair wages, affordable healthcare, and safe working conditions, and I pray for a swift and just resolution to this strike.”
UNITE HERE Local 11 remains committed to fighting for the rights of its members and advocating for a more just and sustainable hospitality industry. The union calls for a swift resolution to the labor dispute, emphasizing the need for hotel management to prioritize fair wages, affordable healthcare, and workplace protections for their hardworking employees.
