Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson Appointed Chair of the Select Committee on Ports and Goods Movement

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- (February 23, 2023) – Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) has been appointed chair of the Select Committee on Ports and Goods Movement by Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood). Assemblymember Gipson’s Assembly District 65, includes the port of Los Angeles so he understands the challenges and opportunities that California’s ports offer.

“I am excited for this opportunity to work with industry leaders in my district and across the state. This committee will go the distance and continue to ensure that California is a global leader in infrastructure, innovation, and quality jobs. I look forward to having an open dialogue about the issues currently facing our major and niche ports, and collaborating with this committee and stakeholders to ensure our ports continue to be a thriving part of our economy,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson). 

A recent study published on February 15th, 2023 conducted by BST Associates, an independent economic consulting firm, concluded that the trade value of goods moved through California in 2020 was worth $416 billion, and an estimated 3.1 million jobs are directly supported by this trade. The jobs supported by this trade generate $134 billion in worker income and the tax revenue this trade generates is about $38 billion dollars.
