Asm. Gipson on Supreme Court Decision for New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 23, 2022) – Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on New York’s conceal and carry laws:

“At a time when gun violence is rising across the country, due to easy access to guns, the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court is taking us in the wrong direction. The U.S. Supreme Court has now set a precedent that with current justices, all of our gun safety laws are in real danger. In 2022 alone, more than 20,800 people have died from gun violence in the Unities States and nearly 300 mass shootings.

More guns in our streets means more violence, and more violence means more deaths and funerals. Me, my family, and my constituents are scared for our lives. This is a MURDEROUS ruling that puts every American’s life on the line.

To the six U.S. Supreme Court Justices who authored the majority opinion: How can you sleep at night knowing you have blood on your hands? THEY DO NOT SHARE OUR FEAR.

Let there be no mistake – in California, we are continuing to make strides when it comes to strengthening our gun laws because that’s what we are elected to do – TO FIGHT AND PROTECT THE PEOPLE. I authored AB 1621, which would ban ghost guns across the state to safeguard our families, friends, and our babies!

One thing is for certain – we aren’t backing down and we will keep fighting!”
