‘Grab and Go’ Food Distribution Feeds Over One Thousand Families

For immediate release:

Wilmington, Ca (Oct. 28, 2020) -- As part of the ongoing “Grab and Go” campaign to provide families with food in light of COVID-19, Assemblymember Mike Gipson and Strength Based Community Change (SBCC) teamed up to distribute 1,500 boxed groceries today to Wilmington and Harbor area residents.

“We are heading into the holiday season and with COVID-19 still lingering, it remains important that we provide food to those who need it and those who are unable to leave their homes,” said Asm. Mike Gipson.

Other organizations in partnership included The Ricky Davis Foundation, Real Run and Challenging Minds.  Former Port of Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner Patricia Castellanos was also in attendance to help with distribution.

“We served so many families today.  Two of which cried and expressed to me that this was the only food that they received this week after losing their jobs.  This is the type of work that is needed during these times, said Asm. Mike Gipson.  “I am humbled by the many volunteers and organizations who chose to roll up their sleeves and help our brothers and sisters.”

Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson represents California’s 64th Assembly District that includes the communities of Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willow brook and Wilmington.
