SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RULE ON PUBLIC CHARGE

For immediate release:

CARSON, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) released the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling on public charge:

“The rhetoric coming out of Washington has placed a target on the backs of the poor, immigrants, and people of color. Instead of working to uplift our communities out of poverty, the Supreme Court has chosen today to uphold the President’s latest attempt to target immigrants accessing vital resources,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson.

“California is home to more than 11 million immigrants. 1 in 4 Californians are immigrants. This new rule change will not only hurt hardworking immigrants across the State, but will also make it harder for their US born children. Many will now have to choose between putting off resources they need like food and medical care or being locked out of our already difficult immigration system. We need comprehensive immigration reform, not rule changes based on fear and ignorance.”
