CARSON, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) released the following statement on the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors’ vote on Comprehensive Crisis Response:
“I totally support today’s vote by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors introduced by Supervisors Mark Ridley-Thomas and Janice Hahn that will develop a framework for multiple L.A. County departments to implement priority elements of the 40-point Comprehensive Crisis Response Strategy as set forth by the Governor’s Council of Regional Homeless Advisors,” said Asm. Mike A. Gipson.
“Today’s vote is a call to action for State, County and City governments to act expeditiously. This is a true crisis. Los Angeles has half the State’s homeless population. The fight is here and now. Gov. Newsom knows that the fight is here in California. The L.A. Board of Supervisors know that the fight is here in Los Angeles County. My godson is homeless and has suffered trauma since orphaned at age 6. The fight is here for him and our family. The fight is in our communities. The fight is here and now.
“This vote is a strong and clear beginning. It acts on the urgency of homelessness by immediately providing resources and greater capacity to those individuals and families who are ready to come indoors. Today, 30,000 Angelenos are ready for shelter. It also maximizes healthcare and mental healthcare funds for vulnerable populations.
“Supervisor Hahn praised Supervisor Ridley-Thomas’ idea to lease a facility in Compton as a shelter for 10 years. This is an excellent start and I look forward to the transformative changes that the Governor and the L.A. Board of Supervisors want to set in motion,” said Assemblymember Gipson. “They have my full support. I’m all in.
