SACRAMENTO, Calif --- Assembly Caucus Chair Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) released the following statement:
“The United States Supreme Court has managed to roll back the DACA status of children of undocumented immigrants. The majority of DACA recipients are right here in California, more than 220,000. This is the only home they have ever known.”
This is more than a moral issue. Ending DACA and kicking recipients out of the labor force will cost the United States more than $430 billion in GDP and decrease Social Security and Medicare contributions by $24.6 billion over the next decade.
Ending DACA will also lead to the immediate unemployment of over 685,000 recipients, resulting in businesses and employers incurring turnover costs of at least $3.4 billion.
We do not need to take away rights and opportunities; we need to streamline the path to citizenship.
