For immediate release:

Wilmington, Calif. --- Grab your running shoes! Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) will host a ‘5K Run/Walk for Autism’ to commemorate National Autism Awareness month and to raise awareness for autism on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Wilmington Waterfront Park.

The free event, co-hosted by Supervisor Janice Hahn (LAC-D4) and Councilmember Joe Buscaino (CD-15), is an opportunity for parents, kids, and community members with and without autism to raise awareness and help break the negative stigma that surrounds the condition. There will be several informational booths with resources on autism, live music, and plenty of outdoor activities for attendees.

“One in 40 children in the US are diagnosed with autistic disorder spectrum. Our goal with this event is to raise awareness while empowering those living with autism. We have to work together to break the negative stigma that surrounds it,” Asm. Gipson states. “This is my way of bringing a fun and educational component to my district in recognition of Autism Awareness month.”

The ‘5K Run/Walk for Autism’ will be held at Wilmington Waterfront Park, W C Street, Wilmington, CA, 90744. The event is open to the public.
