SACRAMENTO, Calif --- Assembly Caucus Chair Mike A. Gipson released the following statement regarding Governor Jerry Brown’s budget proposal:
“Governor Jerry Brown has released a robust initial California State Budget Proposal for 2018-2019. One of the key spending points is an increase in K-12 education spending per pupil with additional focus on students from low income families and youth in foster care. This is good news for students throughout California and particularly in my district.
“Although there is an anticipated $7.5 billion tax windfall expected by Summer 2019, the possibility of a recession remains. Thus, it is a marked achievement that under Gov. Brown’s proposal, the Rainy Day Fund will achieve the maximum balance allowed by the Constitution, $13.5 billion in 2017-18.
“This initial budget proposal is a strong starting point for negotiations that will ultimately culminate in a comprehensive and well-crafted final budget in June.”
