CARSON, Calif --- “Trump’s latest attack on Americans living with HIV/AIDS is one of his last heartless acts for 2017,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, chair of the California Assembly Select Committee on Infectious Diseases in High Risk Disadvantaged Communities. “The remaining six members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS were fired this week. The other six members resigned months earlier in protest of Trump’s position on health policies.”
“The Office of National AIDS Policy has not had a director since Trump took office and his dismantling of the Affordable Care Act speaks volumes on his lack of concern for the health of those Americans in dire need,” stated Assemblymember Gipson. “Although progress has been made, AIDS and HIV continue to decimate people of color and those who live in poor and underserved communities here and throughout the world. Advances in science and technology continue to offer cutting-edge treatments but the fact is that these advances trickle down slowly to the masses, if at all.”
Gipson concluded, “We can eradicate AIDS and HIV through dialogue, outreach and education – three tools apparently unfamiliar to the White House administration.”
