Statement by Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson on Filipino American History Month

For immediate release:

CARSON, Calif --- California continues to benefit from the wave of Filipino Immigration that began around the early 1900s. It was after the passing of the Immigration Act of 1965 that as many as 20,000 immigrants a year are welcomed.

“October is the month where we celebrate and honor Filipino American leaders from different professions and walks of life,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson). “I am proud to have supported SCR 97 introduced by my colleague Senator Richard Pan that proclaimed the month of October as Filipino American History Month. It’s important that we recognize the many contributions, talents and culture of Filipino Americans in October and throughout the year.”
