Gipson condemns decision to rescind DACA

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, chair of the California Assembly Democratic Caucus and member of the California Legislative Black Caucus, condemns the unjust and evil action taken by #45, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the White House in rescinding DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).

“Let’s be clear.  These children did nothing wrong. America is the only country that they have ever known,” stated Assemblymember Gipson.  “These so-called leaders, who have no conscience, are eager to uproot and tear families apart.  We talk about attaining the American Dream.  Yet, the White House wants to destroy dreams.

In every civilized society, children are protected.  What does this say about our moral values when we snatch children from their homes, schools and communities?  What about the thousands upon thousands of ‘Dreamers’ who significantly contribute to the economic growth of this country?

Los Angeles is a diverse melting-pot of all nationalities and home to the largest ‘Dreamer’ population in the country. Angelenos don’t tolerate diversity; we celebrate it.  That is what really makes America great.

“Join me in demanding that Congress seek a permanent and immediate solution for all the immigrant youth and for all immigrant families,” said Gipson. “Tell the White House that you support the DREAM Act as one of the most inclusive and positive pieces of legislation introduced both in the House and Senate.”
