52 Years Ago, And Still The Fight Continues

For immediate release:

CARSON, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, Chairman of the Assembly Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in celebration of the Voting Rights Act, signed 52 years ago:

“On August 6 of 1965, a monumental piece of legislation was signed into law that allowed for African Americans to make their voices heard at the ballot box.  Today, our right to vote has come under assault by one single man in the White House who has created a Voter Integrity Commission to ask for information from every state to determine who can and cannot vote.  This is simply another example of terror activities being used to discourage both voting and organizing for the right to vote.  There can be no other interpretation. This is why I stand proudly with our Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, who has publicly stated he will not be sharing voter information on behalf of Californians with the Commission.”
