Legislation seeks to hold park owners and managers accountable
Sacramento, Calif --- This week, Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair Mike A. Gipson introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 294, known as the 2017 Mobilehome Park Owner Disclosure Act. AB 294 would amend current law to require the management of a mobilehome park to disclose specific information about the mobilehome park owner within 10 business days upon the request of a homeowner.
"Although current law requires management to disclosure contact and other information about the owner, there are no checks and balances when it comes to the timing. It's openended" said Asm. Gipson. "AB 294 is a reasonable bill that goes a long way on behalf of the homeowners. It puts teeth in the system."
The Mobilehome Residency Law governs residency in mobilehome parks and requires the management of a mobilehome park to disclose the name, business address, and business telephone number of the park owner upon a homeowner's request.
"I would like to sincerely thank Assemblymember Mike Gipson for introducing this piece of legislation" said Tom King, Chair of the South Bay Mobilehome Residents Alliance and City of Carson resident. "AB 294 will benefit both mobilehome park residents and mobilehome park owners by removing the ambiguity in current law."
AB 294 is currently awaiting assignment by the Assembly Rules Committee.
Mike A. Gipson represents the 64th Assembly District that includes the communities of Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook and Wilmington.
