(Carson) – The California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA) released their 2016 'Environmental Justice' scorecard showing Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair Mike A. Gipson receiving an 85 percent approval rating on environmental policy for the 2016 legislative session.
"As a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus and the Assembly Environmental Caucus, I am proud to have scored nearly 90 percent on major environmental policy that affects low-income communities and communities of color" said Asm. Gipson. "Whether it's requiring municipalities to address environmental justice in their general plans, renewing our greenhouse gas emission goals or mandating 25 percent of cap-and-trade be spent in disadvantaged communities, it is clear that we can come together on the major issues affecting Californians."
CEJA is a statewide, community-led alliance that works to achieve environmental justice by advancing policy solutions. Partners of CEJA include: Communities for Better Environment, Environmental Health Coalition, Physicians for Social Responsibilities Los Angeles and Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE).
"There's always room to improve and new ways to collaborate. I've met with representatives of SCOPE, Coalition for Clean Air and others alike. The partnership is there. The communication is there. This scorecard is an example of that."
Mike A. Gipson represents the 64th Assembly District that includes the communities of Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook and Wilmington.
