Gipson Named as Grand Marshal to Long Beach MLK Jr. Peace and Unity Parade

For immediate release:

Carson, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson will serve as Grand Marshal to the 29th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Unity Parade Celebration in Long Beach on Saturday January 14, 2017.

"I am deeply honored to have been asked by Long Beach Councilmember Dee Andrews to serve as Grand Marshal to this year's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Unity Parade." said Asm. Gipson. "Dr. King changed the world in a major way. Through his words and non-violent actions, he demonstrated that persistent activism can achieve tremendous results by appealing to the moral conscience of all Americans."

Saturday's parade will originate on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street and proceed north to Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. At the conclusion of the parade, the celebration will continue at Martin Luther King Jr. Park for festive-filled activities and entertainment. This year's theme is 'Love and Forgiveness' which highlights Dr. King's quote of "We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies."

Mike A. Gipson represents the 64th Assembly District that includes the communities of Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook and Wilmington.
