Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva Blood Drive
Time: 10:00 - 4:00 P.M.
Location: Hillcrest Park, Red Cross Building
The American Red Cross, along with blood banks throughout California, report a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during the COVID-19 outbreak. Healthy individuals are encouraged to donate for patients who need blood, platelets and plasma. However, people 65 and older as well as those with underlying health conditions should not risk going out to donate blood.
In order to ensure staff and volunteer safety, those who wish to donate must make an appointment. Blood banks are advising donors that they have enacted additional safety measures to the safety of donors and staff, who also are being screened for temperature and upper-respiratory symptoms.

Safe Medicine Disposal Virtual Press Event & Q&A
Albertsons, Inmar Intelligence, California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC), and the National Stewardship Action Council (NSAC) have all partnered to expand consumer drug take-back in California at more than 300 Albertsons, Safeway, Von’s, and Pavilions locations. This partnership expands upon the safe medicine disposal infrastructure already in place thanks to voluntary actions and the 13 local ordinances passed in California that require the medication producers to fund and operate a medicine take-back program. Additionally, CPSC received a $3,000,000 grant from the CA Dept. of Health Care Services to install medicine disposal bins which, with the support of Inmar, led to Albertsons and other pharmacies hosting more bins. For map of locations.
Members of the press and friends of the project are invited to attend a virtual press event with three esteemed legislators and representatives from Albertsons, Inmar, CPSC, and NSAC on Friday, 7/31 at 11:30 AM PT.
